Business Leaders Series Ponders Hong Kong’s Future

On 19 May, Mr. Nicholas Brooke, Immediate Past Chairman of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, spoke as part of the Business Leaders Series. During his talk, he focused on the importance of innovation and technology in supporting Hong Kong’s long-term development. He also discussed the role Hong Kong Science Park can play in helping the city become greener and more advanced, saying, “Going forward, innovation and technology are indispensable to creating an excellent quality of life for present and future generations.” Please click here for the report and photos.

Brewing Optimism Despite Challenges
Rocky Kam (BBA in Hotel and Tourism Management 2003) has stayed optimistic throughout his career, helping him achieve his dreams. Upon graduation, an economic downturn led him to pursue a career in the designer eyewear industry. In his spare time, Rocky dreamed of creating his own company and eventually established a wholesale business, Coffee Mountain. Last year, he took another risk and opened a coffee shop in Tsimshatsui, Simplii Yours, hoping to promote coffee culture throughout Hong Kong. Wishing Prof. Dennis Fan a Happy Retirement
On 12 May, staff and alumni gathered at a farewell party for Prof. Dennis Fan, the Business School’s Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies). A respected teacher, Prof. Fan has spent 26 years at CUHK and many of his former students now hold prominent positions in leading companies. “This is a perfect moment for our unwinding relationships. I appreciate the trust and friendship you gave me, which has made my life more meaningful,” he remarked. OneMBA Delegation Stops by CUHK Campus
OneMBA alumni from Asia, Latin America and Europe enjoyed a tour of CUHK Business School on 12 May. During their visit, they learned about the Business School’s latest updates and future plans before embarking on a tour that included stops in Café 12, the Finance Trading Laboratory and the Hyatt Learning Centre. The OneMBA Alumni Association organised the event as part of the OneMBA 2017 Global Alumni Meeting in Hong Kong and Xiamen. Read more here.
Celebrating Summer with an MBA Happy Hour
Over 150 faculty, students and alumni met at Jamie’s Italian for an MBA Happy Hour on 9 May and had a great time catching up and making new friends. A group photo and toast led by Prof. Angela Ng, Associate Dean of Global Engagement and External Relations, were the highlights of the evening. CUHK Business School Receives New Accreditation
Recently, CUHK Business School received accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) for several of its programs, including the EMBA, MBA and MBA in Finance degrees. An internationally recognised body, AMBA accredits programs from the top 2% of business schools in more than 70 countries around the world. Meeting AMBA’s high standards speaks of CUHK Business School’s many achievements and reputation as a leader in business education. Conference Looks at Venture Capital’s Role in Higher Education
Global leaders recently gathered at the Coller Institute of Venture Annual Conference, which focused on the theme “The Future of University Venture.” CUHK was the conference’s only university partner and organised two special events for attendees, including an Academic Session on 22 April, during which several scholars shared their findings on venture capital. Two days later, a Partner Session took place at Hong Kong Science Park. During this meeting, speakers explored the role of CUHK Business School and other universities in an innovation-driven economy.
